Theme of the Conference

Corporations play a significant role in shaping and improving economic outcomes through their strategic decision-making in the global market. Such decisions impact domestic and international business in varying degrees, hence the role of these transnational entities assume a significant role in world trade. National divergences in the context of socio-economic development and regulatory mechanisms produce different types of domestic patterns in terms of forms and functioning of business organizations. Even so, Corporate Governance standards and procedures are considered indispensable for economic growth and social development across the world. The Companies Act, 2013 and its latest amendments together with the connected regulatory reforms have broken through a new era of Corporate Governance in India.

In this backdrop, the present conference is intended to provide a platform to discuss and deliberate the theme in detail during the technical sessions followed by the Round Table Discussions being chaired by Partners of reputed firms, academicians, and other key professionals.

The Law and Technology Society is pleased to host the 16th Consilience Conference on “Intermediary Liability and Content Regulation: Principles, Perspective and Solutions” on 25^th May at the university campus in Bangalore.

The objective of this year’s conference is to bring together experts from diverse backgrounds including technical experts, lawyers, policy-makers, and industry professionals, to discuss the current scenario of the much needed moderation of online content in this era of fake news and disinformation. We intend to submit policy recommendations to relevant agencies in the Government of India, based on the deliberations at this conference. 

The Conference

“Consilience” is an annual academic conference exploring the intersection of public policy and latest technological trends around the world. This year, themed on Intermediary Liability and Content Regulation, the conference will see participation from government officials, members of the tech industry, entrepreneurs, civil society and the academia, all in one room to answer the questions that are posed by the widespread growth of platforms and the unregulated content creation on the same. Consilience is a unique opportunity for academicians, scholars, practitioners, and students to learn about the various facets of this debate particularly in light of significant emphasis on the same during the general elections.  All participants will be awarded a certificate signifying participation at the event.

There is a registration fee of Rs 150 for students and Rs 350 for professionals which includes lunch for all the participants. The fee does not, however, include accommodation.

The Peacekeeping and Conflict Resolution Team (PACT) is launching the first batch of the Global Academy for Advocacy in Dispute Resolution (GAADR) which will take place from June 11 to 16, 2018 in Goa, India.  

The first two and a half days (11,12,13) will be dedicated to CDR – Consensual dispute resolution (Mediation/Conciliation/Negotiation). The latter two and half days (14, 15, 16) will focus on ADR – Alternative dispute redressal (Arbitration). 

PACT invites you to be a part of this project as we aim to nurture a young generation of lawyers to be productive with their preparation, effective with their practice and honest with their consultation. 

The Consensual Dispute Resolution (Mediation Advocacy Accreditation) component involves:

– Tactfully preparing the client for a Mediation/Negotiation

– Creating a strategy for your client based on BATNA/WATNA

– How to make the most of a mediator.

– Drafting a Mediation Agreement

– Cross culture Mediation

The National Law School of India Review (NLSIR), the flagship journal of the National Law School of India University (NLSIU), Bangalore is pleased to announce the 11th Annual NLSIR Symposium on the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code. It is scheduled to be held on the 24th and 25th of March, 2018 at the Allen and Overy Hall, National Law School of India University, Bangalore.

The Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code is one of the key legislations of contemporary India which has been recognised to have a huge impact on Indian industries. The 11th NLSIR Symposium on the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code will throw light upon the manner in which this legislation has changed the business landscape of India, the impact of the recent developments in the legislation on the various players in the market, the law relating to insolvency and bankruptcy in India prior to the code and discuss the challenges in implementation and securitisation in order to trace the impact of this legislation.

Confirmed speakers for the event include Ms. Aparna Ravi, who was an integral member of the Bankruptcy law reform committee constituted by the Central Government to look into the law related to Insolvency and Bankruptcy in India, Mr. Satwinder Singh, head of Vaish Advocates and Associates’ corporate law practice at New Delhi with vast experience in matters relating to private equity, mergers and acquisitions and corporate restructuring, Mr. Sumant Batra, President of the society of insolvency practitioners of India and Chairman of ASSOCHAM National Council of Insolvency and Bankruptcy, who also works as a senior international consultant to the IMF, World Bank, OECD among others, and Ms. Bhargavi Zaveri, a former research fellow at Harvard Law School who is currently associated with the National Institute of Public Finance and Policy, working in the areas of financial regulation and policy. The symposium will also be graced by many other speakers from distinguished law firms, government organisations, and policy institutions.
